Well, September first... what a lovely site after a sweltering August. I am thankful for the approach of fall weather. I am looking out my window and wishing it felt as cool out there as it looks! I love fall!
I am looking forward to my challenge of buying US made products! Today will be a true test as I go grocery shopping. We are out of so much and on a tight budget this month! I'll let you know how that goes.
Since I had to open up the purchases to the western hemisphere in oreder to buy bananas and other fruits, I decided to add on another challenge for myself. I thought long and hard about what I have that I could do without. After seeing friends do without, I have decided to try the 'no dishwasher' thing. This will be a challenge since I despise dishes! This may end up being more for a challenge on Jon... but I am going to give it a go, especially since we have to pre-rinse them all due to a lack of water pressure!
My grandfather wouldn't use his dishwasher after my grandmother passed away. He, instead, used it as storage for his plates and cups and freed up cabinet space. So, with the goal of having more cabinet space and using less energy, I want to give this a try.
I have heard that using the dishwasher actually saves energy and water, especially if you have a newer HE model. I haven't done much research myself though.
ReplyDeleteI go back and forth on the dishwasher....I find that often, when I unload it, the dishes aren't always clean. So then I go to washing by hand for a while. But then, out of desire to be more efficient, I go back to using it!
ReplyDeleteI have heard the same things on efficiency in using the dishwasher. On some level I am not trying to be more efficient, but less dependant on the modern things we deem as necessary.
ReplyDeleteBut I do realize the need to be more effecient and think it is a plus when I can be by getting rid of modern conveniences and be more effecient.
I have a newer model dishwash, but the water pressure in our neighborhood is severely lacking. We have to pre-rinse and scrub them clean before we run the dishwasher and then sometimes have to run the dishwasher twice with the same load. So, just hand washing them once could actually save us water and energy. We'll see.
So it's been a while... how are you doing with this challenge? We went without a dishwasher for about a year, because I waited on the perfect one to go on sale. It really was not as bad as some would make it. It gave my kids and I some time to talk one on one without interruption because the others knew that if they came in the kitchen they would also have to help!! Now that we are back to the dishwasher, each person has something specific that they must put up so we are together, but I am finding that we do not talk as much. Well with the exception of Ashley, she never stops talking...
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying your blog, have a great day!!
